This is post #105 of very many dealing with the Song of Solomon. This is the 10th post from my Song of Solomon book of Chapter 5. ***Chapters 6 & 7 of the Songs of Solomon is complete and ready to freely distribute.*** Post #104 was posted back on March 12th, 2014 on my timeline Post #103 was posted back on March 5th, 2014 on my timeline: Post #102 was posted back on February 12th, 2014 on my timeline: Post #101 was posted back on February 1st, 2014 on m...y timeline: Post #100 was posted back on January 21st, 2014 on my timeline: Songs 5:7 The WATCHMEN that went about the city found me, THEY SMOTE ME, THEY WOUNDED ME; the KEEPERS OF THE WALLS took away my veil from me. (Contd from last post) The Strong’s Hebrew translation word and definition for the English word ‘watchmen’ is as follows below, H8104 shamar shaw-mar a primitive root; properly, to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e. GUARD; generally, TO PROTECT, ATTEND TO, etc.:--beward, be circumspect, TAKE HEED (TO SELF), keep(-er, self), mark, look narrowly, OBSERVE, PRESERVE, regard, reserve, save (self), sure, (that lay) wait (for), WATCH(-MAN). The ‘watchmen’ seem to give reference to God’s so called people of the land of Israel given the Hebrew definitions of the word ‘shamar.’ A watchman’s job was to keep watch, observe, and guard to protect at the gate for any incoming danger being of God’s enemies against His people from within. When a watchman saw incoming danger he was suppose to give heed to warn the people of the land within the gates by blowing the trumpet or in some cases give out a loud cry. Jeremiah 8:5 Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding [perpetual means everlasting]? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return. Jeremiah 8:6 I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: NO MAN REPENTED HIM OF HIS WICKEDNESS, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle. Jeremiah 8:8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. Jeremiah 8:9 The wise men are ASHAMED, they are DISMAYED and TAKEN: lo, THEY HAVE REJECTED THE WORD of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them? Jeremiah 8:11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, SAYING, PEACE, PEACE; when THERE IS NO PEACE. There is no such thing as lukewarm Christians. We read of Christ Himself making this stern statement recorded in Revelation 3:15-16: “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16) So then because THOU ART LUKEWARM, and neither cold nor hot, I WILL SPUE THEE OUT OF MY MOUTH.” Jeremiah 8:12 WERE THEY ASHAMED when they had COMMITTED ABOMINATION? NAY, they were NOT AT ALL ASHAMED, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD. Ezekiel 8:3 And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and BROUGHT ME IN THE VISIONS OF GOD TO JERUSALEM, TO THE DOOR OF THE INNER GATE that looketh toward the north; where was THE SEAT OF THE IMAGE OF JEALOUSY WHICH PROVOKETH TO JEALOUSY. Ezekiel 8:4 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the vision that I saw in the plain. Ezekiel 8:5 Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry. Those of us who make a profession of faith are commanded by Christ to “Watch and pray, that ye enter NOT into temptation {Matt. 26:41}.” Looking back to the Strong’s Greek definition ‘shamar,’ one of the definitions is to take heed to self. As professing Christians we are all considered ‘watchmen’ especially concerning our souls and a few of us are called into positions of authority to be overseers watching over souls within a congregational setting. However, when these leaders and even laymen/women within the global congregations walk contrary to the laws and statutes of God’s Holy Word, they are in essence smiting and wounding fellow souls. Ezekiel 8:9 And he said unto me, GO IN, and behold THE WICKED ABOMINATIONS that THEY DO HERE. Ezekiel 8:10 So I went in and saw; and BEHOLD EVERY FORM OF CREEPING THINGS, and ABOMINABLE BEASTS, and ALL the IDOLS of the HOUSE OF ISRAEL, pourtrayed upon the wall round about. Ezekiel 8:11 And there stood before them SEVENTY MEN OF THE ANCIENTS of the HOUSE OF ISRAEL, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up. The Strong’s Hebrew translation word and definitions for the English word ‘ancients’ are as follows, H2205 zaqen zaw-kane from 2204; old:--aged, ancient (man), elder(-est), old (man, men and women), senator. The Lexicon results from Blue letter bible website for ‘zagen’ ~ (H2205) for ‘ancients’ are as follows, 1) old a) old (of humans) b) elder (of those having authority) Ezekiel 8:12 Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou SEEN WHAT THE ANCIENTS of the HOUSE OF ISRAEL DO in the DARK, every man in the chambers OF HIS IMAGERY? for they say, the Lord seeth us not; the Lord hath forsaken the earth. Ezekiel 8:13 He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and THOU SHALT SEE GREATER ABOMINATIONS that they do. Ezekiel 8:14 Then he brought me TO THE DOOR of the GATE of the LORD’S HOUSE which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Ezekiel 8:15 Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and THOU SHALT SEE GREATER ABOMINATIONS THAN THESE. Ezekiel 8:16 And he brought me INTO THE INNER COURT of the LORD’S HOUSE, and, BEHOLD, at the DOOR of the TEMPLE of the LORD, BETWEEN the PORCH and the ALTAR, were about FIVE and TWENTY MEN, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and THEY WORSHIPPED THE SUN TOWARD THE EAST. Ezekiel 8:17 Then he said unto me, Hast THOU SEEN THIS, O son of man? IS IT A LIGHT THING to the HOUSE OF JUDAH that THEY COMMIT THE ABOMINATIONS WHICH THEY COMMIT HERE? for THEY HAVE FILLED THE LAND WITH VIOLENCE, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose. The LEVITES were the ONLY GROUP allowed by God to go WITHIN THE TEMPLE at Jerusalem. They were commanded to perform specific duties in handling the music, ceremonial sacrifices, and other functions dealing with the holy things of the duties of the priesthood. These were God’s WATCHMEN in Ezekiel 8 WHO INSTEAD SMOTE and BEAT THE SOULS OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL with their works of abominations. Worst of all, THESE ABOMINATIONS took place WITHIN THE INNER COURT of the LORD’S HOUSE BETWEEN THE PORCH and the ALTAR. The LORD stated to Ezekiel in verse 17, “they have filled the land with violence.” When we as professing Christians take and use the Word of God for our own devices and motives, we have in essence “filled the land with violence.” Post #106 will finish up with Songs 5:7 dealing with the phrase, The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me at a later time, Lord willing and able.
