This is probably one of the last photos of what I still think of as Cabin 49, but which was last known as Cabin 12. It was located opposite Pump #7, up Jethro Trail a bit from Ellis Land. My own troops cabin, Cabin 50 (now Cabin 11) was just a short distance away; but I saw a lot of this cabin during my trips to and from the pump. It had been derelict in the mid-60s; but I remember Troop 49 making an attempt to clean the place up and restore it to use. They never made it, though; and by 1974, the cabin was stripped clean by vandals and would be demolished within the year. Troop 250 salvaged the siding for its own cabin; and although it wasnt enough, the plan was that we would salvage what else we needed from other cabins facing demolition. Unfortunately, the troop fell apart before this coukl happen. The cab in deteriorated until Knox Trail Council gutted and rehabilitated it; and now, its the only survivor of the cabins of its vintage, south of the Tantamous Hill Fire Lane, with the exceptions of Cabins 34 and 100, which are probably somewhat older.
