This is probably the most epic book I have ever read, and I feel - TopicsExpress

This is probably the most epic book I have ever read, and I feel obliged to recommend it to any and all fans of fiction (who can stomach violence). The prose of Cormac McCarthys Blood Meridian is, to my mind, unmatched. In recounting the immensely violent tale of the Glanton gang, a notorious group of scalp hunters in the 1850s American Midwest, McCarthy uses a powerful rhetoric that recalls texts like the Bible and Dantes Inferno. Imparting weighty and uncomfortable reflections on the nature of humankind, the novel resembles a calamitous reckoning between the ubiquitous violence that is the fact of human history - represented through the demonic character of the judge - and morality. Not for the feint of heart - probably the most violent piece of notable fiction written in the last century - Blood Meridian is nevertheless an overwhelming and monumentous novel that attempts to locate a solid ground for morality in a species cable of seemingly endless brutality. P.S. Seriously if you cant stomach violence or if youre feeling emotionally unstable, or if you feel like some light reading LOOK ELSEWHERE. As magnificent as it is, this book is like the textual equivalent of a blood orgy.
