This is really long. I congratulate anyone that takes the time to read this. I am curious as to what people think. I would put more pictures but they are taking a very long time to lead. so I will try to put them in the comments. Approx. 15/16 year old 14.1hh Ash x, chestnut gelding. Alfie has been an amazing little pony in the time that I have known him. With new people he will test you out, you need to be an assertive and confident rider, and tell him off when need be or he will push your boundaries and be naughty, nothing dangerous though. He is shod in his front feet. He is fine to wash, shoe and float. I haven’t needed to clip him as he is under lights in winter. Very good to float, does not scramble. He can be difficult to catch in a large paddock but when he is in a small paddock he is easily caught and will walk up to you sometimes. He is hard fed and stabled at night. He has jumped 1.05m at home *once*, but usually competes 60 to 80cm. He can compete up to 80 to 90cm unofficial classes. I do not feel he would compete well in 90cm+ rounds regularly. He always comes home with ribbons rom show jumping days and regularly places in the top three. While he can jump he is a sporter at heart. He loves to go fast and is very forward, and can be strong. He has been competing for two years with this year successfully qualifying for PCAQ state formal and sporting Gymkhanas as well as the Mounted games. He did exceptionally well on the Formal day for his first state, coming home with four ribbons. In our local gymkhanas he regularly places and is always sure to win, or place in the top three in Top score, with a point and fire jump so long as you are confident, and once you get to know him. He always places in the top two overall at Gymkhanas, and days that he has not, it was due to me having made simple mistakes. He can be ridden bareback, and in a halter and lead rope to be jumped, I haven’t tried too much halter and lead rope flatwork, but he was good for what I have done. He is very willing and likes to please, He doesn’t like getting in trouble. He has very flashy leg movement and exaggerates his canter and trot. I have had to teach him to pick up his right canter lead in the flat. He picks it up sporting and jumping, but is favourable to his left lead in flat work. He will rush into his canter sometimes, but is improving. Recently he hasn’t been running into it at all instead he will go into a very forward, fast canter. He holds his head in frame in both the walk and trot well, and is learning still to hold it in the canter. He is very leg and seat sensitive and needs soft hands. I took him to my pony clubs dressage day just for some exposure and in both tests he received in the 52’s and 53’s. His tests had a few 7’s some 6’s but mostly 5’s and some 4’s, which were my fault. He placed 6th overall, which was a huge achievement for him, as he is a sporting pony. He likes trails but is better in small groups because he will get excited and likes to gallop. He loves dams and swimming, but not puddles. I am yet to take him to the beach but will be going sometime.
