This is referred to as a Roll Away. When I was working for USPS we had a Letter Carrier who had parked his 1/4 Ton ( little USPS jeep) on an incline at a business. When he got out it rolled away into traffic and struck a car. A very serious offense if you are found to be at fault. When the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor arrived with his minions to investigate, his first assumption (as always) was that the Carrier failed to set the hand brake. The carrier insisted that he had done everything correctly, but of course it had to be his fault. The Supervisor got in the Jeep , put it in park, and set the handbrake. The Jeep didnt move, so he proceeded to hammer the Carrier about failing to follow the rules, lying to cover up his neglect, blah, blah, blah. While the Supervisor (aka Anal Jerk) was laying on the lecture, threats of suspension, etc., there was a resounding thud from the Jeep as the parking brake released itself and slipped out of Park, the Jeep rolled back down the parking lot, across the street , bounced over the curb and stopped short of striking the building across the 3 lane street... The Supervisor took his entourage and departed the scene. (Y)
