This is slight off topic but I wanted to share anyways. If anyone is still looking for a gift for a kiddo in their life, I highly recommend this book. Its only 6 bucks! amazon/gp/aw/d/0064406822/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1418490571&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40 I accidentally stumbled across this book at Goodwill quite a while ago. It now entered our bedtime routine and holy smokes is it a fantastic book!! Not only does it tell a sweet story of an orphan owlet but it also incorporates a tremendous amount of facts in a fun way. The book is framed around the declining spotted owl population as a result of logging in the old growth forests. In the book, the boys dad is a logger. Like I said, its full of real facts. For example, when they think their little owlet is ill, the reader learns about owls casting pellets. You learn about basic behaviors, hunting habits, imprinting, feather imping and much, much more. My 8 year old daughter (who is quite proud of her bird knowledge and professes that she pretty much learned everything she knows about birds from Jeff Grotte) just loves the book. And, obviously, I am quite enjoying it myself!
