This is so brilliant, I just have to share. (1) As an essayist, I do think its important to separate a true arts review (critique in its best form) from opining like mine. My understanding of a review is that it is a gift to the production and to the audience in that it teaches by exploring the intent of the art and how that intent was or wasnt met. (2) The thought that people who are paid to review would actually accept a free ticket boggles my mind. In fact, the thought at a reviewer would accept pre-payment for their review in the form of a comp, blows me away. In politics that would be seen as a shakedown. Free tickets ought to only be provided to inspire someone who cant afford a ticket to attend. Grrrrrr. But then, what the hell do I know. Ms. Lavy lays it all out.
