This is so close to the truth. The Virgin Birth was a huge pre-biblical Greek idea that was incorporated when Paul turned an off-shoot of Judaism into a Greek version for the masses - i.e. corrupted much of what MAY have been there before. Later it was Romanised - even later it was Lutherianised (into a sub-group) and much much later it was Americanised. In ancient times it was common fare for the misses to be up the duff when one came back from war - hence the many fables of: Zeus came down and blessed us with a son - hence demi-Gods, I was raped by .. Zeus or Apollo or whatever any excuse to prevent execution (who wouldnt !!!) or being ostracised for infidelity. Added to this the well documented fact that young ladies whod (innocently or ignorantly) got themselves pregnant with the father having scarpered - would be given by the Elders of the community to an older man who had lost his wife through illness childbirth etc., It was community thing that we lack today - trouble is, no one necessarily asked the young lady if she wanted to be given away and to whom, it was decided by church elders (thanks !!) And so one has the virgin birth story that was originally found in only one late Gospel and then transcribed into one of the others - the story of the synoptic Gospels is worth a couple of hours of your time too ...
