This is so cool! Did you know that we are living in a literal vortex? We often forget that the sun is not stationary when we look at models of our solar system. The sun is whizzing along the outskirts of a galactic arm at a rate of 792,000 km/h, and the planets are all moving along with it in that speed while rotating it perfectly. Our galaxy itself is moving at a speed of over 2 million miles per hour! When we take these two facts into account and think about what our solar system would actually look like in motion, it appears to be more of a vortex (helical in shape) then it does anything else. It almost resembles the structure of a DNA molecule.
