This is so infuriating, this verdict, but I will just say this: I find it hard to blame 9 jurors and a police officer for the daily injustice in which so many of us participate and are quietly complicit, including myself. Frankly, the justice system doesnt solve problems: it punishes people after the fact. You can punish someone until you are blue in the face and it wont change the system that produces injustice. Our education system and health care system and a whole lot of other systems cause daily injustice of the highest order and impose degrading conditions in peoples everyday lives. These things I see everyday while taking my son home from school. The slaughter of innocent grade-school children and, in our neighborhood, an infant, have not brought about change in the governance, nor has it incited people enough to enact change. I hope this will be different, but, the sad thing is, it seems like we are all to blame: an ineffective government and a contented majority. We all want justice, but lets strive for the real justice, as Plato so eloquently expounds, the kind that a takes a whole nation, a whole education system, and a whole way of striving for ideals... its the hard way, and there isnt another. So tomorrow I will get up and go to work like many of you, but will we really ask ourselves, am I doing the right thing for today?
