This is so true. I remember in 4th grade, I had the highest amount of accelerated reader points in all of Sam Houston Elementary. That year, I had read nearly every major classical novel that you can think of (huck finn, tom sawyer, uncle toms cabin, a tale of two cities, wuthering heights.. list goes on and on), and I learned so much from reading. Rather than see that as a good thing, every one of my peers would take every chance they had to poke fun of my love for learning and reading. I remember in English one day, we learned a new word haughty, and a randomly selected student had to use it in a sentence. He says Bryan is haughty because he reads so much. I actually got upset that he said that, and the entire class didnt understand why I was mad. Its because I actually understood what haughty meant from reading, and none of them did, all they knew is what the teacher told them it meant 5 minutes earlier......
