This is so true. I went through all of my working years pretending to be someone else until the day I took my first job as an attorney, as an associate for a one man office. I was 51 years old, and starting a 3rd career, and I said to myself, screw it, Im not pretending any more, so I said to my new boss, Im gay, is that a problem? and he replied, So is my brother, have another bagel. Ive never gone back, but I can never recover those years when I referred to partners as um, my partner, or, God forgive me, as him. I can say however, I have never worn a tie!
