This is something I posted a couple of months a go and with all the comments on costs of stylists etc I was asked if I would re post it to show you what works is involved when styling a wedding This is a bit of a spiel but I thought I would give you a snapshot of my preparation and the amount of work involved when doing your wedding set up for you, I may well have missed a few things out but you can get the gist, this was our wedding on Friday at Montville by myself Getting ready for a wedding Really it starts months before with discussions, sit downs with the bride and groom, sketching out ideas, purchasing items required for the big day, the week before mocking up the wedding centrepieces, ensuring that the table cloths, chair covers, sashes, runners are all clean. Ordering the lollies for the lolly buffet, ordering the fresh flowers in this case for the centrepieces, finalising the seating plan so you can make the seating plan in time, making the ties for the napkins to match the colour theme, ensuring all the decorations are in one piece and ready to go. Then the day before , lets take this weeks wedding as an example Friday is wedding day! Thursday I stood and ironed 144 sashes, 14 runners , 16 table cloths, pressed 72 napkins, time spent 7 hours with no aircon and no fan going! I washed and steralised all lolly jars, tongs, scoops and packed them. Ensuring jar sizes were correct for lollies purchased. I washed all 20 glass cubes, for floral centrepieces, 20 votive holders and 20 crystal tealight holders, dried and packed them. I cleaned 8 square mirrors, 2 large rectangular mirrors, 16 small mirrors, 4 mirrored risers. I packed 72 chair covers , cleaned the wishing well, framed the poem made a back drop for the lolly table, checked all batteries were fully charged or new for the lights being used. I packed all votives amd tealight candles, got my easels, poles etc ready to load car. Its Friday we aren’t allowed in venue until 10.00am, ladies lots of venues do not allow people to set up before 9.00am on the day of the wedding please be aware of that when your thinking of doing DIY, I have had many brides caught out by this and even venues charging an extra days hire if you want to go in the day before. The venue is an hours drive away, car fully laden ,grabbing a coffee on the way. Covers on, sashes which are double ones tied, cloths on , runners on, mirrors, votives and tealights on centrepieces of fresh flowers made as we go along, napkins put out, table numbers, brides relish and lemon butter favours put out, crystal scatters added to all tables, lolly table set up, wishing well table set up, finger print tree and props table set up. Bridal table decorated. Leave venue at 2.00pm Arrive home after grabbing a late lunch at 4.15pm, chill by getting ready for Saturdays engagement party! Set back off to the venue at 9.00pm arrive at 10.00pm as bride and groom are leaving, time to break down reception , here we have lots of wet cloths(spillages of food and wine, wax everywhere to scrape off , pack the car drive home arrive back at 12.15am Before going to bed I take half of my black cubes and load dishwasher and go to bed. Saturday morning Up at 7.00am, first load of chair covers in the washer, second load of vases in dishwasher, have to courier a parcel so over to Eagle Farm by 8.00am Back home at 8,30 first load of covers on line, second load in, cubes out of dishwasher, scrape out old wax and add votives to dishwasher, same with tealights. Second load on line of covers, first lot of table cloths which all have to be pre treated before washing in. Hand wash all lolly buffet jars and let drain Meeting with a bride at 12 noon. First load of table cloths on line. Second lot pre treated and into washer. Pack car head over to deliver and help set up small engagement party, get some shopping back quick lunch and back to hang out next load. Count all napkins to check all there and add to washer. Separate the white from black sashes and count all in ready for washing Scrape wax from all mirrors and crystal chandelier candle holders, clean all mirrors and put away Repack all lolly buffet items put away Wash 2 large martini glasses used for lolly display and put away, return wishing well and easel and signage to showroom Check the number of table runners is correct and get ready to wash. Repack the tub of all the chair covers , checking if any need to be re washed due to shoe polish or other stains that haven’t come out first time around So still to do I have to wash the table skirts, a black load of table cloths, white sashes, black sashes, damask runners, re wash some chair covers, hang these all out to dry, then pack them all away which I will be doing tomorrow as it is now Saturday night at 9.00pm and I am knackered , due to the weather the following few days it was the following Friday before all items were fully washed, dried and re-packed away Moral of this story when you wonder why we charge the prices we do to make your wedding special this is just a snapshot of what is involved!. We take the stress as you dont have too.
