This is something Pakistanis will never understand. Building a narrative, or countering a narrative, is against the Pakistani psyche because we dont think like a nation, we think as groups of people. Our religious beliefs are the same. We are not unified Muslims. We are Deobandi, Brelvi, Hanafi, etc. Thus our religion has trouble standing together to craft one narrative against the statements of the West. The correct way to counter biased narratives is to put forward a better narrative, never to persecute the people who espouse it! If someone depicts Prophet Mohammad as a war-monger, or whatever else, persecuting them only helps cementing that point. After all, force is only used under frustration, when there is simply no rational answer to offer. So heres my question... can we stand, for once, as Pakistani Muslims and forget everything that divides us to help the country win a war and defeat the extremist ideology? Can we stand together to build a progressive Pakistan outside of political ideologies, religious differences and ethnic groupings?
