This is something for specific members of the group. To those of you who have spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, partners, significant others: Does your significant other share or at least accept your atheistic point of view? How has it affected your relationship? For me, my wife has always known that I have been at least an agnostic. I really didnt accept that I was an atheist until I nearly died due to complications arising from Crohns disease. It was also the same time that I discovered my wife was more religious than I was originally aware of. When I was in recovery from surgery, I was told by my doctor that fewer than 5% of people who go through the surgery I went through survive. Even though this information was a shock to me at the time, I did not feel the need to thank a divine power for making it thorough. I realized then that my personal belief was truer to atheism than to agnosticism. However, my wife believed the power of prayer helped me recover. This disagreement has taken adjustments on both our parts. We have been together for almost 30 years now and this event happened in 2010. In a sense, we have been rediscovering each other since my surgery. It has been a struggle at times.
