This is sort of a RANT! IMO birds arent for everyone! I see so any that come to my house who see my flock and say, oh I want a bird .... The commitment involved with the ownership or rescue of a bird is overwhelming knowing we can never truly give them what they need is heartbreaking. And knowing that at some point we will leave this world before they will just haunts me. Birds BITE, they have the capability to DESTROY anything and at sometime will. That on a dime you may go from being there buddy to their most HATED person. They are EXPENSIVE if des correctly. They are LOUD! Oh my Hod are they loud at their best. And with all that they will always long to be free and because they were brought into the pet trade. They will never be able to survive free. They have been taken from there natural environment , either by trade. Poaching or breeding here on the states. So what will you say to those who say Oh I want one! Think carefully.... The large percentage of birds that are bought in a store, or at a breeder or from a Rescue end up going from house to house, on CL, being neglected. Being kept in inadequate cages with inadequate food, no human interaction....they become pluckers, they scream continuously, and attack their owners in frustration, or escape to only find there is no survival skills to fall back on.... It goes on and on. Having a parrot for a pet is a HUGE RESPONSIBILITY! Educate those who ask, be truthful, make them do the research, and maybe we can change one parrots future.
