This is still going on and while my identity is in Christ its still a struggle at times to block out the lies of the enemy and truly love the skin youre in and know that you belong. Im still tempted to reject the skin that Im in despite all that my family and friends have taught me. So sad that this is learned at such an innocent and tender age and reinforced for years by images and messages and deception. I met a woman who grew up in a very homogeneous country, everyone looked similar and spoke the same language, not very much diversity. BUT she shared that all the baby dolls sold at the stores in her country were blonde and blue eyed....shes from Asia...Where were the baby dolls that looked like her? Now we have folks all over the world buying skin whitening creams and using products that threaten their health all to look a certain way. And for children, one can see why theres a beauty bias- the cartoons, tv shows, (#boycottDisney), movies,popular childrens books, child stars, celebrities rarely feature the rainbow of hues that is huemanity (misspelling intentional). So now that we know what years of research has proven (that race socialization and discrimination is learned at a very young age), what are we the people doing about it?
