This is such a sweet little girl. As most of you know Hopes - TopicsExpress

This is such a sweet little girl. As most of you know Hopes story, she was thrown away on the side of the roadway, found and taken to the pound in very poor condition. She is a mature lady of more than 10 years old, has lost most all of her hearing and has limited vision. She is suspected to have been a breeding dog, and discarded when she became sick (with meningitis), losing her senses, and likely not able to produce any more babies to sell. She was not able to stand when she came to us and required IV fluids for days, and several doctor visits, as we got her healthy again. She always has a blank expression on her face, and we sometimes wonder if she knows she is now safe. She should HATE people, yet she follows me every step I take. If I sit down, she wants to be in my lap. If I am walking, she would prefer I carry her along. She has the same response to Tommy. She never licks us, nor shows much emotion at all, but I can sense that she feels love and is giving it back. Her little body has been damaged so much by her previous life, yet she still has such a desire to keep going. Hope is just one of the many animals in our neighborhoods who are abused and ignored every day. Luckily for Hope, and for me, I just happened to drop by the pound the day she was brought in and took her right to the vet, then to our home. Today was not an easy day for me, as I went to the pound to visit an old friend and take him to the vet for much needed treatment. Old Man has been a resident at the pound for a while now and I suspected he would likely live out the remainder of his years there. He arrived with a large mass on his neck, and recently it had opened up and seemed to be spreading to other areas of his head. With the generous donations from our Sandy Wayne family we were able to take Old Man to the vet this morning, but the diagnosis was not good news, and we had to help our friend over the Rainbow Bridge. I sat on the floor with him as he relaxed, I talked for a bit and I sang Amazing Grace as I usually do for any of my sick babies or the ones I know are trying to cross the bridge. I wept. I was not sorry for Old Man, as his pain is no longer there, but I wept because I was so angry. Old Man was around 12 to 14 years old, and at one time he must have been someones pet. He was brought to the pound in this condition and discarded - He was left here to die alone. How sad to have a heart so cold. I felt pretty sure that Old Man would not be leaving the vets office today, so we took a little detour around the bank and the parking lot at the CVS store, and with the windows down we let the cool air blow, and Old Man held his head out the window and enjoyed the ride. After the procedure was complete, I told the vet that I dont think I am cut out for this kind of work, but after I arrived back home and looked around at Sarah and Hope, I realized this is the work I am meant to do. I just wish we could reach more people and could have more help trying to take care of these innocent beings. I wish we could reach the hearts of the cold and callus ones that bring the harm and pain to these animals and to other people. I just wish they could look into the eyes that I have looked into, and SEE what I see, FEEL what I feel, and HEAR what I hear. All we can do it try to make this world a better place by doing what we can. The sweet girl from the pound with the swollen face is in a great rescue and is getting medical treatment, because they saw her on Tammies page. Old Man is at peace now and has no more pain because people I have never met sent the money for him to go to the vet. Hope and Sarah were saved from the pound and even with their special needs, they are living a happy and healthy life as part of our family because you all sent food for the pound babies and I was taking it to them on the day these babies arrived. So, we ARE making a difference. You help me by encouraging me to keep doing the work we do, and by supporting our mission. I guess all-in-all, it was a pretty good day. AND, Tomorrow will be even better. We hope your week has started off well and that you are sharing sunshine as you move through your week. Remember to Pay it Forward
