This is the 13th of my Christmas music posts. If you miss any, stop by my Facebook wall occasionally and catch up. Selah again. We knew we didn’t want to make a “fluffy” Christmas album – there are plenty of Christmas albums about Rudolph and Frosty out there! We wanted to create a deep, rich listening experience that hopefully would create a sense of wonder and awe in the listener regarding this mysterious, beautiful experience of God coming to Earth. This album has some of my favorite songs we’ve ever recorded throughout our career: “Mystery,” which Todd wrote when we were in college together; “Once Upon a Christmas” by Dolly Parton (she even came and sang on the track with us! It was a highlight of our career!) and the title track (Rose of Bethlehem), which is a beautiful modern Christmas hymn. -- Allan Hall Selah is known for their strong voices. Listen and see if you agree with that assessment. Selah (original group): Todd & Nicol Smith Sponburg (brother / sister) and Allan Hall. Todd and Nicol were raised in the Congo where their parents were missionaries for 35 years. Their grandfather was the first oral surgeon in the Congo. They are fluent in Kituba, a Congolese dialect, and have recorded songs in that language.
