This is the Fri, Jan 23 edtion of My Music Video of the Day. Todays music video is I Want To Know by KONGOS. The group is made up of four brothers who were born in South Africa, of Greek heritage, additionally lived in London and have resided in Phoenix since 1996. They started as a group in 2007. They are the children of John Kongos, who was a famous singer/songwriter in South Africa. So, music is in their blood, so to speak. Recently, they had two hit singles: Come With Me Now and Im Only Joking. The video is a compilation of live performance shots taken from their live shows in Chicago, Lisbon (Portugal), Mexico City and Buffalo. The video is shot in black and white (except for a few seconds at the end of the music video.) Added to the performance shots are day-in-the-life type clips. It was decided to shoot the video in black and white in order to have a sense of continuity when dealing with various locations. Musically, this is a reggae-sounding piece that combines tribal drum beats, synth sounds, excellent harmony amongst the foursome and a searing guitar solo. Each of the Kongos brothers writes songs. Perhaps thats where the harmony of each individuals contribution comes from. Lyrically, Im at a loss. I have included a link to a piece that provides insight into each song from their album, Lunatic. Check it out because you might get some additional lyric interpretations there. Even so, the author of that piece admits he doesnt really know what the meaning of the lyrics are for sure. Maybe thats where the songs title came from. What is the meaning of these lyrics?...I wanna know! As mentioned earlier, there is the link to a song-by-song analysis of their album, Lunatic.
