This is the Mon, Jan 5 edition of My Music Video of the Day. Todays music video is Hope for the Future by Paul McCartney. When I first saw this music video, not knowing its origin, I thought that it sounded like something you would play over the credits of a movie. It has that orchestral movie- music feel to it. Well, I was not too far off. Its actually the musical piece that plays over the credits for a video game called Destiny. This was something that Sir Paul had been working on for about two years. Not just this song but the soundtrack for the game. The song was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in front of a102-piece orchestra. As far as the visuals go, the music video uses landscapes and characters from the game. Sir Paul appears in the form of a hologram projected onto a set piece. The shots are simply beautiful. For me, it was these visuals that made me want to listen and watch this music video. The thing that distinguishes this music video is the orchestral sound that adds to a sense of grandeur and majesty which fits right into the theme of the game and Sir Pauls beckoning words about the hope for the future. The opening lyrics are: Some hope for the future, some wait for the call, to say that the days ahead, will be the best of all. This optimistic tone continues when we hear: From out of the darkness, our future will come, if we leave the past behind, well fly beyond the sun. This leads to the chorus which continues with positivity: hope for the future, its coming soon enough, how much can we achieve?, hope for the future, it will belong to us, if we believe, if we believe. In the closing verse, he sings, hope shines brightest in the dark, where nothings ever seen, lighting undiscovered places, no ones ever been. Sir Paul ends the song with his final call for hopefulness by repeating the songs title, Hope for the future. In addition to this post, Im sending the following links via separate posts: a link to the You Tube lyric video for the song, a link to the You Tube video for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video and a link to the Wikipedia entry for the game which is called Destiny. Enjoy! Give it a listen and tell me what you think.
