This is the SIXTH X-flare from this behemoth sunspot, the biggest - TopicsExpress

This is the SIXTH X-flare from this behemoth sunspot, the biggest sunspot in 24 YEARS! Remarkably, none of the sunspots unleashed have had any coronal mass ejections. While traveling over the solar disc, this sunspot has had 27 C-class flares, around 10 M-class flares and the 6 X-class flares. This type of hyperactive flaring is unprecedented!! This fact, along with the fact that flaring has NOT been accompanied with the normal expected ejecta from CMEs, is really puzzling scientists. I would not be surprised if this massive sunspot comes back around for a second run. It may be storing up major energy so that if it reappears, it may not withhold the CMEs.
