This is the dangerous part of the prosperity gospel and the American church: While we may not be telling people to come to Jesus so they can have riches, we are telling them to come to Jesus to have a better life, better marriage, better kids, better time in school, better retirement, etc...Why do we call people to something that they are already looking to for satisfaction? These things can never bring satisfaction. They can never give what only Christ can give. When we call people to simply pray a sinners prayer and believe in a Savior who died for them to give them a better marriage, a happier life, etc; but we never call them to look to that Cross for atonement, repentance, confessing their sins, looking to Him for mercy, resting only in Jesus Himself and what He did...then we are guilty of making people happy on their way to hell. What we save people with, is what we save them to. What then happens when they pray that prayer and theyre still not happy and they still have all of the same problems? ...we do all of this rather than saying: Come to Jesus for life. The Gospel working in peoples lives is in Jesus hands alone, but we better be calling people to the correct Jesus. When we meet people in the streets today and when we pass by our neighbors and were living life with them; lets not call them to church so their life can be better. Lets tell them both the bad and the good news: that God is holy and that you and I are not, and one day were going to stand before that Holy God in either our own righteousness, or lack of it, OR in the righteousness of Someone else...and the Gospel is this: Jesus Christ did for you what you could never do for yourself, you were dead and he came to bring you life, you were condemned in your sin and deserve His wrath; but He bore the wrath that you and I deserve. We could never live a life that could earn or merit or obligate God in any way to give us this forgiveness, and so Jesus lived that life that you and I never could. And so, the call is to repent and place your faith in the Gospel. That is what you need. Check this out under the title Why I Hate The Prosperity Gospel at this link: nlfnj.org/media.php?pageID=5#2
