This is the deal in Western Australia regarding the non-payment of fines. If you refuse or dont pay your fines, you get chucked in prison where you work off your outstanding fines at $250 per day spent in prison. Therefore, people have worked out that it is best to not pay their fines - check into prison on a Friday and then spend the week-end in prison watching TV and then come out on the Monday and all their fines are then written off. ( It costs $350 per day just to house someone in prison)...A better way needs to be worked out to recover outstanding fines. It would be best to deduct the fines from their Unemployment and other government payments.
