This is the early days of automobile racing in Louisville at the Louisville Motor Speedway on 18th Street Rd. in Valley Station just south of Johnsontown Rd..Today it is Dixie Hwy. & Speedway Ave.,it was built in 1925 by a group of Louisville investors and opened for the 1926 racing season. It was a 1/2 mile dirt oval race track, with a 6,500 seat grandstand. This was not the first place in Louisville for auto racing as auto racing started in Louisville in 1909 at horse race tracks and also at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds horse track in 1918,but this Louisville Motor Speedway was the first race track built for auto racing in Louisville. There is not much online that I can find about this place, and so far this is the only image I have found of the track.I have searched lots of old newspapers with no luck about it either, but I would have to guess there is some old photos and info out there somewhere about this old race track.I have found a few things related to the track as you can see below.
