This is the email I wrote to Ms Sanchez thanking her for her column. Your opinion piece was well-written and struck the correct tone: simmering outrage at a once-great and compassionate nation that has been reduced to a grotesque Right-Wing political carnival. A nation ruled by a bloodthirsty mob is destined to fail. The mob confuses conformity to order, a monoculture of opinion instead of a diversity and vengeance to mercy. Alas, as the Poet said, there comes a time in all our lives when we must hope for mercy. When Yeats wrote of the blood-dimmed tide he was referring to the Golem of fascism in Europe that was on the rise. If Yeats were alive today he would see that same blood-dimmed tide washing across America, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. God help us. -e
