This is the full video from the Wednesday NCGA opening day #ForwardTogether movement press conference. There are a lot of powerful truths being spoken here, including our board member Kara Davies personal experience of the benefits of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which NC became the first state in 30 years to eliminate (shes at the 41 minute mark). There are also moving stories from those being denied health care access, those struggling with chronic unemployment, and teachers having to do everything with less while enduring the ridiculous disrespect being shown to them.The policies enacted during the NCGAs race to the bottom last summer are in place now, and people are starting to feel the effects. Our members NC Justice Center, Planned Parenthood of Central NC, and Democracy North Carolina were joined by other Forward Together partners to highlight what we think went wrong last year, and how we think things can get back on track. One thing the NCGA does want to change right away are the rules for protest (see link below), because stifling dissent is the first step towards manufacturing consent for anti-people, anti-democracy policies. That just tells me we need to be louder, so we hope youll join us this Monday at 16 West Jones Street, Raleigh.
