(This is the kind of petty silliness that perhaps only married people will understand.) :-) When we moved into our current house about 7 years ago, my wife did all the decorating. One of her decorative choices was to put a clock on the wall of the kitchen. It was an ordinary cheap wall clock, big and round, made of plastic, and run by a battery. Aside from the fact that it was unnecessary, since there are clocks on the microwave and the oven, I tolerated it, because it was silent and unobtrusive. But, about two years ago, that clock stopped working, and she replaced it with a similar clock... except this new one has a loud and annoying clicking sound as it turns the second hand. At first, I tolerated it, and tried to ignore it. But, it became such an irritant, I had to stop it. So, soon after she hung up the new clock, I disconnected the battery and left the clock hanging in place. And, the strange part is that since my wife never actually looks at the clock, she has never figured out that its not working. So, for the last two years, weve had this non-funtioning clock on the wall. It still serves a purpose, however... it keeps my wife happy, because she has her decoration, and it keeps me happy, because I get my peace and quiet, after all. (Now, Im hoping my wife wont read this... otherwise, shell know of the trick I played on her!) :-)
