This is the kind of things that drives genealogists insane trying to find their ancestors. My husbands family name, Bauser, was changed by some of his ancestors after their arrival in America. So, I have to search for Bauser, Bausser (the original spelling), Buser, Bowser, and so on. Ugh! But in this instance below, I dont blame him! When he came to America he shortened up his name a bit for convenience sake, as it took too much room on a sign, and as signs must be paid for according to the number of letters, the name was expensive.....
