This is the last post for this year from me. I do continue to enjoy the page so keep up the good work and a merry Christmas and a guid New Year John Semple CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS In this day of electronics and convenience it is good to know that some people still decorate their homes with paper balls and bells. Who could forget the folded paper chains that were strung from each corner and met at the light fitting in the middle of the room? Similar paper chains were looped round the walls as well but the main features were the concertina balls and bells that were suspended from the same spot on the ceiling. They lasted for years and they were held in shape by a small piece of sellotape. I never remember them ever losing their shape. The tree was real, of course, and the few lights and baubles were huge in comparison to today’s offerings. The tree was finished by throwing small pieces of cotton wool at it to represent snow and some cotton wool was placed round the bottom. Our trees then I seem to remember as brighter than the one we have today even although we have many more lights on it now. I think it was the comparison to the grey times we lived in. One thing is certain we all had a great Christmas even although our dads had to work on Christmas day in Scotland, the one days holiday was saved for New Year. That’s it for this year but I do wish my reader a very happy Christmas and a guid New Year XX from Yesterday When I Was Young
