This is the last standing structure of Fort George (where St. George Hospital now stands). This structure used to be ammo storage area and currently houses a small office of the Archaeological Survey of India. This structure is on P. D’mello road a little before CST station. Do have a dekho if you can --------- The Fort area was the heart of the city during the 18th century. The area gets its name from the defensive fort, Fort George, built by the British East India Company around Bombay Castle. Fort George was an extension to the fortified walls of Bombay (now Mumbai) built in 1769; it was situated in the present Fort area, to the east on the site of the former Dongri Fort. The hill on which the Dongri fort stood was razed, and in its place Fort George was built. In 1862, the fort was demolished to make way for a growing city. (Wikipedia)
