This is the letter I wrote and sent to the BOD and CEOs. I titled it Stevens Story. To Whom it May Concern, My name is Deana Faucher and I live in Dover NH. My son, Steven, began working at the Somersworth NH Market Basket (#36) about 4 months ago. This is his first job. He is 20 years old. Let me tell you a little about my son, because bosses should know the people who work for them, right?? From the ages of 16 to 18 my son did not leave the house. Not once. He has been diagnosed with agoraphobia (fear of people and crowds) and suffers from anxiety and panic attacks in social situations. He did not graduate from high school. Not because he wasnt smart enough, but because going to school would trigger panic attacks. He sat in his room, day in and day out on his computer and that was the ONLY social interaction he had for nearly 2 years. His older brother was a Full Time Market Basket Grocery clerk (also store 36) for over 6 years. He saw how depressed his brother was and urged him to apply at his store. He talked to the store managers and assistant managers and Steven started his job as a bagger in the front end. The change in him was AMAZING! He was like a whole new kid. His supervisors worked with him with his scheduling because he dosent drive and had to be scheduled after 4 pm so I could take him to work when I got out. He was always ready to go and excited about going when I got home from work. Most days he would be waiting on the porch so I could bring him a little early. He LOVED his job and the people he worked with!! His older brother left Market Basket at the end of June to pursue a different career but he always told me about how well Steven was doing and how much his bosses liked him. He was a hard worker. He was a worker worthy of MARKET BASKET. After 3 months he was transferred to the produce department. He was so proud!!! He knew it was because of all of the hard work he does. He was rewarded for being a hard worker. Less than a week into his new position, the trucks stopped coming. There was no produce. My son is back in his room day in and day out for the past 3 weeks. He went from around 30 hours per week, to 12 hours, to 4 hours, and now he is being told We will call you if we need you. He WANTS to work!!!! Dont get me wrong, he is not on your side. He fully supports this boycott and the protests and he wants Artie T back as much as all his co workers do, but he WANTS to go to work and feel like he has a purpose in life. How DARE you hold a job fair, when the workers you do have cannot work because your CUSTOMERS refuse to feed into your greed and be pawns in this family grudge game? And you hold a job fair to replace them? I want you to know if my son gets replaced with someone hired at this job fair, I plan on hiring an attorney. My son NEEDS his job, not for the money, but for the incredible difference it has made in his life. You may have not have even seen this letter or stopped reading after the first sentence, but I have made the effort for you to learn the personal story of at least one of the workers you are hurting. May I suggest you get to personally know more of your workers, you know, the ones who show up everyday and take pride in what they do? It may help make it easier to do what is right. My sons story is just one of many you will find among the associates of Market Basket. As a customer, I will tell you now that I will not spend one red cent in any Market Basket store until Artie T is back at the helm of the ship that he built. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read this. Deana Faucher Dover, NH
