This is the only time Im going to be political on Facebook, and Ill try to be brief and balanced. Ive never been political on Facebook, mostly because I believe politics belong in the privacy of ones mind, but I feel the need to post because 1. Ive seen images, videos, and heard stories that arent going to ever be able to be jarred out of my mind- unless someone comes up with some sort of horror-erasing brain cleansing machine. Also, 2. As a reaction to the numerous posts by friends on here that warrant a response. ▶◀ I see friends who have long bashed one news source, such as CNN or Fox News, now taking the sides of the opposite one. This is because of a long history of networks having political agendas, and the history of those agendas themselves, which is exactly why I dont watch major news channels. They flip and flop, issue to issue, world event to world event, all out of a desperate and pitiful attempt to blindingly and fully support one of two poltical identities- and it makes it very frustrating to talk about Gaza with most people. Hundreds of years ago George Washington and John Adams warned us of a split republic/two-party system (with good reason). Our government moves at a snails pace to make progress and decisions, and it also divides our country up amongst its own citizens with extreme sensationalist propaganda--citizens that will be too glad to quickly tell you all of the facts they know about whats going on overseas. The facts differ, and so do the opinions, and then there are those in the middle of it all who dont know the facts- not knowing either because they dont want to know, or because theyve been lied to. I mention all of this because regardless of what news channel, smart phone raw video, or high-brow article tells me, I know the ultimate facts. I know the inarguable facts, and those facts are- 1. War is hell 2. It is intolerable for children on both sides to be dying from flechette bombs and gunshots 3. Promoting anything but a peace treaty is unacceptable 4. That a peace treaty is a long ways off. BUT, the fact that its a long ways off doesnt mean it should be given up on, and this brings up the facet of life called hope. Dostoevsky once wrote, To live without hope is to cease to live. Well, can anything really be done other than to hope for peace? To hope for a sudden, abrupt, and absolute ceasing of violence between these two feuding powers? Because the only alternative to hope, as I see it in this conflict, is more death, destruction, and despair. I will never be a cheerleader for war, and I know a lot of people arent-but regardless of who is doing what, I cant express any sentiment about this whole situation other than to simply hope. This may or may not have any effect on you, and Im noy trying to influence anybody in any way- its just a collection of thoughts I needed to express after being frustrated to tears about whats happening- a wordy and more thoughtful way of stating, This sucks and I want it to end.
