This is the outcry of concerned parents, teachers and students of Federal Government College Ikirun about the unbearable state of their beloved school, under the leadership of the Principal- Mrs. Grace Ogunmekan, as the tenure is being characterized by pride, and other ugly traits! Ads As for the Principal, Mrs. Grace Ogunmekan, rumors about her have proven to be true when finally; The National Mirror on page 19 described her with series of words very apt for her behavior and misconduct. I could remember during our own time that our uniform symbolizes a good Nigeria as the color then was white shirts and green trousers/skirts for both boys and girls with a fitting green beret for the girls. Not quite long after she was appointed as the next principal, things started to change as she altered a lot in the school system. The school uniform also changed! One of the teachers said: “We have never had it this bad in this school. This is a principal who acts as the accountant, bursar, store officer and also the public relation officer for the school. She awards contracts single handedly and brings in the contractors herself. The most unfortunate thing is that she threatens everyone with sack”. What an abuse of position! Another fact is, she uses foul languages on teachers, students and parents and strong abusive words are not new songs in her mouth. Male teachers even at the senior level prostrate before they talk of give reports to her in her office. Changing of the school uniform baffled a lot of the alumni. I could remember also that my younger brother paid for the blazers as well, and was not given nor refunded. (Do the maths: N5000 from each student, multiplied by over 300 students in S.S 3 ! Not to talk of JSS1 to 3 and others. That is too much!). What about all the money? And she will be retiring and handing over August this year! Many of us who are now in various universities paid for the said blazers but were never given nor refunded. This is nothing but misappropriation of funds and embezzlement. Since this mean woman came into that dream school, the S.S 3 WAEC and NECO results have been going down the ladder every year. Lots of ‘F’s have been recorded in Mathematics and English languages which are the core subjects. What do you expect from an insolent Principal of a unity school who left classroom for inspectorate for 15 years? What does she know about running and managing a school? We got to know about her “I- don’t-care” attitude from what our younger ones told us at home during holidays. Federal Government College Ikirun [FEGI], whose old students association find their ALMA MATA in an unbearable state of calamity and now calling on the Minister for Education (Prof. Ruqayah Ahmed Rufai) to investigate the matter and sanction all the partakers of this corruptible act.
