This is the part of human nature we never hear about. But it is just as real and even more important than any self-focused behavior we might engage out of sheer entropy or in response to the siren call of our often very shallow consumer culture. This aspect of our humanity is always present even when we choose to ignore it and deny its existence. But without it, Homo sapiens would never have survived, much less become the fittest. It is our ability to care for others that makes us fully human.
