This is the rest of Jenicas post. She has a great attitude about life and sense of humor to go with it. · .So my second episode of Jeopardy has aired, and now I can talk about what happened with that one too. (Its so nice not to be sworn to secrecy!) SPOILER: I lost. REVISION: Badly. The guy in first had an unbeatable lead, and I ended up coming in third. SHORT VERSION: It was a very close game during the first round of play. Bill (my co-champion) struggled a bit, but Ryan (the newcomer) was very, very, very good at buzzing in. (For the non-Jeopardy fans, the buzzer is one of the hardest parts. If youre too early and buzz in before they finish with the clue, it locks you out for a fraction of a second. If youre too late, the other people will get it first.) I was good at buzzing in, but Ryan was better, and as we moved into Double Jeopardy he built up a pretty big lead. This was kind of frustrating beucase I knew a good chunk of the answers (What is Upharsin? Who is Macklemore? What is Django Unchained?) He got the last question of the round right, which put him at $19,800 and me at $8,800, with Bill at $6,400. Since Ryan had more than twice my score, this effectively meant the game was over-- there was no way to win. Because Bill was so nice to me last time, I bet enough to tie our scores for second place if he bet everything. Assuming, of course, I got Final Jeopardy right, which I didnt. (Anyone here ever heard of the writer Henry James? I hadnt until right then.) Bill is an English professor, and he got it right and ended up in second place. Ryan bet conservatively and walked away with first, and I got the $1000 third-place consolation prize. MOST IMPORTANT BIT: Guess what, guys? I was on JEOPARDY! Which Ive basically been dreaming of since I was six! Ive got some SERIOUS nerd cred, Im $20,200 richer (before taxes) and I got to meet Alex Trebek! Also, this song, which was absolutely terrifying the week before I went to the taping, is now pretty dang funny.
