This is the second bit I wrote for the Times Age. Not sure if it has been published yet.. An Important Issue: Sustainable rating system. A growing number of our community are on fixed incomes. Our region has the greatest portion of over 65s than any other in our country. Also my work has brought me into close contact with many people on low incomes. We will find that what we see as being essential may become unaffordable for many. This means that we have to be increasingly smart about how we do things, who we partner with. Local is great, if it is affordable, but in my work we have found that working with others almost always brings about stronger results and longer term benefits for those involved. We need to apply this type of thinking to our community, led by our council.
