This is the story that led the Central Equatoria State security closed down radio Bakhita on Suturday 16/8/2014 Heavy fighting breaks out in Unity amid sanctions warning Heavy fighting erupted on Friday between South Sudan army SPLA and rebels in Unity state, with the latter accusing pro-government forces of attacking their positions in violation of the ceasefire agreement. The rebel spokesperson, Peter Riek Gew said that fighting started at dawn in Guit, Kaljak and Kuergueyni areas of the oil-rich state, Sudan tribune reported. He said They were surprised earlier morning by the SPLA attacking their three position in Unity state saying this is a very clear signal that the government was not committed to the peace talks. On the other hand acting SPLA spokesperson Joseph Marier accused SPLM/A in opposition for attacking their position in Ayod county, citing violation of the cease fire agreement. He told Bakhita Radio that the fighting which started at 6:45AM ended at 7:15 AM on Friday LT. General Marier said 120 rebels were killed and that 6 were killed and 11 wounded from the SPLA.
