This is the tail end of shark week (I know Im cheating but just got well from the flu!) so I want to share a little about another shark Ive seen, the Bamboo Shark. Living in mostly shallow water around coral reefs, these sharks dont get too big, up to a metre in length. You can always find them hiding in the nooks and crannies of the reef. The name bamboo probably comes from the vertical stripes that the juvenile sharks have. These markings tend to fade as they mature, like in the pictures below. The bamboo shark is a nocturnal predator and they have like cats whiskers at the mouth that are sensory organs. Like catfish. And something I just found out, these sharks can survive out of water for 12 HOURS!!! You can see these these sharks anywhere, but in Tioman Ive seen them at Labas and Chebeh. But the first time I saw these beauties was at the Sawadee Wreck off Tekek. Its a Thai fishing boat thats deep (28m) with crazy visibility but thats where you can see some amazing stuff! So whats your favourite shark?
