This is the third Sunday that Ive spent my day sorting and cleaning up at Moms so that we can get Uncle Jerry moved in and get John situated. Its funny, heartbreaking, sad and joyful all at once. To find the things that she thought were important, to realize how much I truly meant to her, what a fan she was of my writing; how proud she was of John for helping with football and how scared and then relieved she was when he began to make it through. One of the things that I found that just blew me away were her prayer journals that she started keeping since she became a charter member of Open Door Fellowship. She kept calendars of days that prayer requests were made, she tracked them and wrote about the outcome. She described how she had prayed as if she was trying to find out the best way to pray for someones need or desire. She wrote results, she wrote about lack of results. She wrote about battles won and lost skirmishes. She wrote about how her heart was breaking for this family or that person, she wrote about the youth and how she loved them and was so proud of how brazen they were about their faith. Her life was about prayer. I only looked at one year, 2007, and I saw my name many times. I put them all in a box and tucked them away somewhere safe. I dont know what to do with them. I feel as if I literally walked into her inner sanctum with no rope tied around my waist. Normally I would have poured over them, but something told me not to. Mom prayed in privacy and I believe that she practiced the ritual of prayer just the way God told us to. I think she kept track of them not to find out if she was good at it, but to make sure that she was diligent about it. I have a feeling that they have to go somewhere else; much like she has. I am just absolutely amazed that she continues to minister to me so much.
