This is the very heart of what the protests have been about. The police have been showing us exactly how they see us with their comments on social media and of course their tear gas and violence. Will the police take any responsibility for their inflammatory rhetoric and conduct? Will the police hold their own accountable for the way the community sees them? Is there ANY goodwill on the part of the police? At the end of the day - there remains zero accountability for police who abuse their power. I feel sad for the families of these police officers but I refuse to allow this murder become a halo of unquestioning deference to the police. The answer to violence is love, as reflected in this statement from the grass-roots group #BlackLivesMatter, deploring the officers’ killings and calling for “a complete transformation of the ways we see and relate to one another.”
