To all those who ask why I dnt support Modi, here is something u should probably have a look at: Tweaking of laws and playing around the rules to provide major subsidies to bring cos. to the state and show development is not what is desirable and feasible at national level. Tata received a loan of almost 10,000 crores at the interest rate of merely 0.1%, to be paid back after 20 years !!! That too against a total investment of 2900 crore only !!! These figures themselves are too mind-boggling, leave aside the fertile land acquisition and robbing off 1000s of farmers of their fertile lands, payment of stamp duties and electricity bills to be done by govt. and what not. Bending of rules for Adani power, Reliance, EssarSteel. No wonder the corporate world favours Modi for PM. Yaar, income tax hatane ki baat krte ho aap, bhai Guj mein petrol pe sabse jyada VAT hai use and fertilizer pe VAT hai use to hatao. Practically, coalgate hua, 3G scam hua, meri jeb se paise nai gae, par petrol ka VAT to mai roz hi bharta hu, apni jeb se. I am nt in any way encouraging scams or fraudulent ways of Congress or UPA, par practically soche to humme to Uninor aur Videocon sasta internet dete the na. Talking about the figures of Gujarat’s growth, the GDP has remained above the national average since last 10 years, but IS IN LINES WITH OTHER MAJOR STATES OF INDIA viz. Maharashtra, TN, Delhi, AP etc. The GDP shares of some top 5 states of the country is almost constant relative to each other, and not just today but since as back as 2005 !!! If Gujarat is doing well and “Progressing”, as how they put it, so are these states. What exceptional was done ? A government is meant for it, and it did it. A better measure of growth is CAGR (Compounded Annualized Growth Rate) on this. Talking about CAGR, Gujarat has almost had same CAGR in 1994-1999 and 2004-2012, but India (Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu also) has picked up growth substantially during these two periods. Around 6-7 states account for 65% of GDP of the country and here we are talking about all the major states but where does Gujarat stand out?? Nowhere. Oh sorry, I missed this one. It definitely stands out when one compares the rise in debt of the state. India has a per capita debt of Rs. 41,000, whereas Gujarat has somewhere around 30,000. Coool. But are we talking about India as a whole or the claims of Gujarat as a state? When compared to other states like WB and Maharashtra(25k each), AP(20k), UP(13k!!!), Gujarat surely stands out. I am considering these states because they are the one with highest debts among all in India. In 2001, Gujarat’s per capita debt was Rs.9600 and in 2013, just over 23,000. Hhhmmm. Development. Btw, there is something called HDI-Human Development Index, which decides the life standard of people based on criterias like Education, Life expectancy etc. Well, Gujarat has a habit of having BIG figures everywhere, so here it comes again. Forget smaller single digit figures. It is ranked 12th in the country in terms of HDI!!! Wow. Nt far behind J&K and Uttarakhand(!!!). The likes of Goa, Punjab, Haryana and North Eastern India beating it. (Not to mention Maharshtra, TN, Kerala). The highest HDI of nation is 0.865 (Kerala), when Gujarat stands at 0.630, almost 25% lesser. Heard the names Micronesia, Suriname, Tonga? Atlst I didn’t. Well, these are some of the countries with higher HDI than that of Gujarat!!! It had to be. Against a national average of 49% of students dropping out from schools, Guj’s drop-out figure is 57% and 78% among backward classes. The availability of Public Health Centers(PHCs) is short by 21% in the state. There are 25 colleges per 1lakh youth in Gujarat, the ratio better only than Bihar, Jharkhand and MP and equal to India’s average. Done with HDIs, let us see about FDIs. Well, it is well known fact that the claims of large fortunes of investments at Vibrant Gujarat are just MoUs and not actual conversions. Acc. To reports, in 2010, Gujarat accounted for highest FDI among all states, with its share of 13.2%. But the figures declined and in 2012-13, it stands ranked 5th in the nation with a contribution of merely 5%, while Orissa leads with 27% of total investments. Employment growths in manufacturing and services, the major sectors of Indian economy, turned negative in last five years. The policies on which so called “MODEL GUJARAT” works is nothing but unregulated neoliberalism. I wont be surprised if after the Modi regime in the state, and now as it is seen, in India, many more Subrata Roys emerge. The policies in Gujarat i.e. wholesale privatization, extreme disparities in wealth, mounting debts, deregulation of important sectors of state are end-to-end similar to the strategies of US economy that led to The Great Depression. Still, being a global currency, USD was somewhat able to stabilise itself which I fear will not be the case with INR, if TGD in takes place India. To sum it up, I will repeat what Christine Lagarde(MD,IMF) has said: “Let me be frank: in the past, economists have underestimated the importance of inequality. They have focused on economic growth, on the size of the pie rather than its distribution. Today, we are more keenly aware of the damage done by inequality. Put simply, a severely skewed income distribution harms the pace and sustainability of growth over the longer term. It leads to an economy of exclusion, and a wasteland of discarded potential.” I don’t say I am against Modi. I am against anyone who thinks that Aam Aadmi(literally) is stupid and can be taken on a ride by tall claims of development while sitting on the heaps of debt, unleashed once they are out of power. Par yaar Credit Card hai ye, abi aish krlo, jab payment ka tym aaega tab pata chalega k lag gai. Please try to understand, agr devlpmnt k saath debt b badhi to kya hi ukhaad lia humne ?
