This is turning out to be a long week. I am working at a different hospital as an in locums doc so, of course, I am having to learn a new computer system and get used to new surroundings (not an easy task at my age!). Monday, I checked into my hotel, and after finally getting a room key card that actually worked, I go to fill up the ice bucket and the ice machine isnt working. As I wander around the parking lot in search of another ice machine, the manager comes out and tells me that if I need ice, the machine is over there and hes pointing at the machine that doesnt work! And he obviously doesnt believe me because he goes over to check it out for himself. Apparently, the machine had just been fixed the week before and now was broken again. They got it fixed the next day and, in the meantime, put a cooler with ice in the lobby. I was really frustrated today because every day when I return from work, the room key doesnt work and I have to go to the manager to get another (this is day 3). This afternoon, we may have gotten to the root of the problem when the manager called the owner (an Indian guy) in and he claimed that they had been making the keys for only a 24 hour stay instead of an extended stay! Oh well, well see what happens tomorrow! I do have one suggestion for the powers that drive our healthcare system: if we are going to be forced to do electronic medical records, everyone should be on the SAME system. I will never again complain about the system used at Taylor Regional after trying to navigate the system at this hospital which is not very user friendly!!!
