The answer is yes - you are very welcome to come! Source Temple is in a rural area, approximately 12 km from the nearest town which is Cunha in Sao Paulo state, about halfway between Sao Paulo & Rio. Sao Paulo is one hour closer than Rio. While we are a spiritual community dedicated to awakening, your involvement will principally be with our Persist As Love project within the community & schools that surround us; this particular work could encompass areas such as: improving the living environment & sanitary conditions; there may also be opportunities to volunteer at the school with your particular skills (perhaps offering classes in learning languages, music, theatre, arts, yoga, computer science, cooking meals, etc); organizing donation & distribution of clothes & food; pet sterilization; community events, etc;what is ongoing varies from moment to moment. To give you a flavour of the way this project has been affecting the community, you are welcome to watch this youtube video (youtu.be/GyCU1lPd3UA).We could also use you sometimes on-site for: general maintenance, gardening, cleaning, cooking, odd jobs, etc. Please remember this is a fairly simple, rural location so you will not need a huge amount of stuff - we recommend not bringing more than two small suitcases or backpack for personal belongings. These items are essential: Torch/flashlight, hiking/work boots, old clothes for working, protective sun hat & alarm clock. You would stay in our Guest House, which has bathrooms adjacent & laundry area, and is right next to the Main House. There is yoga at 6amwhich you are welcome to go to if this interests you. During weekdays, you meet together every day for a morning meeting with the volunteer coordinator & other volunteers to see what projects need attention & what help people need. Guys tend to have breakfast immediately before this meeting - usually guys help themselves in the morning, some in the Main House and some in their own houses - the Guest House has a little mini kitchen area. We tend to work until lunchtime. The landscape of our day has changed over the years. We used to all gather together for lunch, but lately guys have been gathering in smaller groups - it really depends on the flow of the day. We are not so rigid with timetables anymore. But Im sure if someone cooks a nice lunch, itll gather a crowd! In the afternoon is our free time. There are some beautiful walks here, you might be invited by one of our residents for a holistic therapy, classes, maybe join them for any afternoon activities, watching movies, etc - Im sure your relationships will naturally blossom. Currently, some of us here are in deep meditation and consequently maybe not be so social right now. We also have contacts around the area if there is something you want to experience e.g. cheap taxi rides to Parati beach, one of our regular visitors who is well-known for her Ceramics and runs classes, Ayahuasca ceremony with Santo Daime (friends of ours in Cunha), Tourist sites such as the waterfalls, etc. Having travelled myself, I think you would find being here a rewarding experience. The residents (about 30 of us) are from all over the globe: Spain, England, Germany, Austria, Canada, States, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador; plus a thriving movement of international volunteers coming in & out.
