This is what I said in response to Al Frankens status About Robin - TopicsExpress

This is what I said in response to Al Frankens status About Robin Williams: Al, thank you so much for your kind words. It is indeed a disease and not a choice, as has been said. I wish I could get my words of sympathy to the family. My father died exactly the same way 9 years ago, when my brother, Robin, and I were the same age as Robin Williams daughters. We have been fighting through sadness and shame and guilt and anger this whole time, and I wish nobody else would have to go through that. Im very sad and horrified to hear that people were being abusive to Robins daughter, Zelda. Its sad how many people dont understand that depression is a disease and suicide is not something you choose. You just get to the point where you dont care that taking your own life will shatter your familys world, youre just too in pain to see past what youre going through. This is what I learned after my father died. Please help me get this message to the family and reiterate that Im very, very sorry theyre going through this, but not to blame themselves, and that more people are thinking of them that they know. I can always add more, but most of my friends and know where I sit on depression and suicide and how my family has lived with my the aftermath of my fathers suicide.
