This is what a trip to Bondi Beach will look like in the future, - TopicsExpress

This is what a trip to Bondi Beach will look like in the future, if council gets their way. If you’re not happy about this, say something, write something, do something. How can I make a submission? The formal submission period on the final Draft Plan will begin on Monday 11 August 2014 and end on Sunday 14 September 2014. You can make a submission in the following ways: Online by visiting haveyoursaywaverley.au This external link will open in a new window In writing to the attention of Bianca Simpson, PO Box 9, Bondi Junction 1355. Via email to [email protected] waverley.nsw.gov.au/top_link_pages/contact_us/have_your_say/bondi_plan_of_management Here’s a few questions you can ask them (try to put them in your own words): - what about the massive cost (how much? and who will end up paying for it? Cost benefit analysis please?) - we’ve just upgraded the beach parking system with new technology, etc. How much did all that cost and will it all have just been wasted if the underground option goes ahead? - why are we even spending $1 million to examine this proposal? How much has been spent already BTW? - engineering difficulties (itll have to go into the water table, this is not impossible, this is what they’re doing at Barangaroo apparently, but it is expensive) - the massive ecological damage and carbon footprint created by actually building and maintaining it - the huge disruption to locals and especially adjacent Bondi Beach Public School from what would have to be a substantial construction period (plus the hundreds of truck trips, schlepping sand and materials in and out…- not being able to check beach conditions from the car - not being able to park where you need to access the beach - having to carry surfboards and so on into a lift (I dont reckon mals or SUPs would fit in too easily and imagine the log jam when it starts raining and everyone wants to get in the lift) - where do the exhaust stacks go? Won’t they detract from a few extra trees and green space? - extra green space at the back of the Pavilion – how much would it actually get used? Everyone wants to be able to see the beach, right? - unlike the present car park, it will need some staff, right? More ongoing costs… - Will it be privatised if it doesnt make enough money soon enough? Handed over to Wilson Parking? If it is a financial lemon, will the temptation be to do away with resident parking in order to recoup costs? -What about the oldies and/or less abled folks who just want to drive down to the beach and eat fish and chips in the car and look at the water? - Won’t it be a bit creepy for women in beach gear in a dark car park? - the car park has been there forever, it’s practically heritage listed! - No net gain in parking spots – is it all really worth it? - Would you really want a trip to the beach to be like a trip to Westfield? - What is so wrong with the present carpark that it requires this sort of investment? If you want to, you can email the mayor directly and let her know what you think: “Sally Betts” [email protected] or have your say in person at the Seagull Room, upstairs at the Bondi Pavilion, between 11 -1pm, Sunday, August 17th.
