This is what interests me...the point where advocacy groups, politics, & journalism meet with their coordinated message. Glenn Reynolds writes - I’d also like to know how much coordination there was among folks at UVA — Emily Renda worked in UVA President Teresa Sullivan’s office, and on the White House “It’s On Us” campus rape group, and I believe was the one who told Erdely about Jackie’s case — and Rolling Stone, and the White House, and Sens. Gillibrand and McCaskill. Perhaps someone will ask them, or submit a FOIA request to the White House and a state FOIA to President Sullivan’s office. Conveniently, McCaskill and Gillibrand aren’t subject to FOIA, but that doesn’t stop intrepid reporters from asking them. I’d also be interested in hearing from reporters themselves: Was the White House pushing this story? Advocacy journalism...its in your newspapers, morning TV shows, the nightly news, magazines,...it is the plot line in entertainment shows & movies. Rape culture is just one of the latest memes. The chicken little global warming scam was another meme or created crisis. Global warming...umm...errrr....climate change is gonna destroy the earth tomorrow...well, maybe next year....okay, maybe in 10 years...but we have to act now, NOW I say...& give taxpayer money to my green crony friends! Pass more laws! Hurry! Send more of your money to DC. Tax & regulate. Tax & regulate! It is everywhere...stories & anecdotes & studies & polls...all creating & pushing a false meme & manufacturing a crisis to lay the groundwork for new laws & more government intervention in our lives. Actual NEWS stories are OUT...advocacy journalism is IN. There is no policy debate or examining long term consequences of the laws & regulations being pushed for the meme du jour. There is almost no examining of whether the premise is even true. Like John at Powerline pointed out - But the “rape culture” fad has nothing to do with the actual prevalence of rape, which, according to FBI statistics, is at a 40-year low. It is believe us & do what we say or you are a ______.
