This is what is said by my friend, Jenny. I hope the following words would continue to inspire the others too. Please be patient and look though what my friend had said. Although you may not agree with the means of achieving what we believe in in Hong Kong, it is important to know that we all have the morality and justice in ourselves. No matter what happens, at least this part of us should not be changed. Please stay true to yourself: I am really touched by the Philosophy lecture on Habermas at Auckland today. The students are the hope for resisting our say on justice and the good life being taken over by the system of money and power. Since we have not completely engaged with the overwhelming market economy, we have ideals and time to change the society, to gain back the peoples say. Hong Kong was mentioned and international media attention is addressed! Please dont let this attention to fade away. Continue the movement! It is such a shame that I cant be there. This movement and also the previous protests and sit-in makes me think about what it means to be a student, whats the meaning of university education. In the past 14 years of my life, Ive been trying to be an obedient, good student, going to class, doing the routine I am supposed to do. But it is meaningless if I never reflect on what I am doing. It is meaningless to obey if the social institutions are unjust. Now, what it means to be a student to me is to believe in ideals and dreams, and to act on it, to influence others, to tell others we actually have a say in society instead of being controlled by it. The government, please, respect us and respect yourself as humans with independent agency but not as a tool serving power. We dont want another Tiananman crackdown, it hurts even to think about it. Why the so called leaders often wanted to create trauma and hostility? We are not necessary against you. We just want a common space for us to negotiate, to reach consensus. Why cant you guys gain back your ideals and higher values, and sympathize with us? Yes, I am innocent and naive, I dont understand the sophisticated game of power and politics guys are playing. But please gain back a bit human side of yours. Dont being controlled by this game. Remember the time once you also had a dream. I am absolutely sorry that I cant be there. just seeing my friends and counterparts working for the democracy of my own city. You are so inspiring to me. really inspiring...
