This is what it’s like when I go into a NYC public school classroom to teach poetry: https://youtube/watch?v=PFZB8Vh0ISk When I am not Transmitting, Nu Voices, The Icebergs or writing, I am serving the poetry gods by teaching poetry and creative writing in NYC public schools through artist-in-the school organizations such as Teachers & Writers Collaborative (twc.org) I bring poetry into the lives of kids from the Bronx to Brooklyn and everywhere in between, exposing them to great art, empowering students by publishing their work and making space for them to explore and experiment with language using imagination. I create opportunities for students to play with words to express themselves, generating a love for literature and writing. When I was in 5th grade at Hilltop Middle School in Nyack NY in the 1980’s, Harry Greenberg was an artist in residence from T&W who inspired me by introducing me to the avant-garde, changing my life forever. Thank you Harry Greenberg, and Teachers & Writers, I am honored to continue this work, it was my dream to do so. Will you support these dreams and help bring students more creative writing opportunities? Please help T&W celebrate our first 50 years of inspiring young literary artists, and get ready for the next 50 years, by making a tax deductible contribution to support the T&W 50th Anniversary Campaign.
