This is what the government does; it hires private contractors, who take shortcuts, and badger anyone supervising the cleanup who takes the work seriously. The ugly truth is that Hanfords problems are forever. They are never going to be cleaned up. I personally worked for years on the Rocky Flats Cleanup here in Colorado. It is not cleaned up; it has only been declared cleaned up. Nuclear energy is the worst idea human beings ever had and it is making the entire world radioactive. But our governments have a stake in keeping this truth from the citizens, who remain unaware that they are being steadily poisoned. Another situation that will never be cleaned up is Fukushima-Daiichi where Sec. of State Clinton made a deal with the Japanese govt. to export radioactive foods to the United States. Chernobyl has never been cleaned up and will never be; mothers in the area are producing monsters. In the meantime, where do you think our accelerating cancer rates come from? They come from the steady rain of radioactivity that no one talks about, certainly not the American free press, or the people in our Congress.
